How do I apply for Certification? ^

  1. Acquire the IACC Manual through the Coordinator, Indian Alcoholism Certification Board (address below) or print the information and forms off this web site. Study this manual. Determine whether or not you might be eligible to qualify for certification. If you have not completed some of the requirements, use the Certification Standards as a guideline for your own training and preparation.
  2. If you wish to make application for certification as a Counselor I or Counselor II, write to the Coordinator, Indian Alcoholism Certification Board (address below) to request that you be sent the application forms or print the information and forms off this web site.
  3. After completing all the application forms and returning them to the coordinator, you will be notified as to a date and time for testing and an in-person interview with three representatives of the Certification Board. At this time, you may be certified. If you meet the qualifications for certification, you will be awarded a certificate as a Counselor I or Counselor II, which is good for two years and attests to your competency as an Indian counselor. (The only exception is the Probationary Certification.)
